This is the first of many initiatives and programmes coordinated by the Department of Education and Skills (DES) to commemorate the centenary of 1916.  Children from Senior Infants and First Class formed a guard of honour, waving their tri-colours as they cheered local piper, Mr Tom Durkan leading our guests to the hall. Lieut Hurley read the proclamation assisted by Julia Jurczek and Abigail Cassidy Nolan. Leon Caffrey and Hannah Bermingham from Junior Infants received the flag on our behalf.  Children from Second (Lilly Brady and Natasha Michalska), Third (Abby Galway and Kate Mulcahy), Fourth (Claudia Michalska) and Fifth (Jamie Moloney and Leanne Gallagher) asked some very interesting questions about army life. The ceremony finished with all the Senior classes proudly singing Amhráin na bhFiann, our National Anthem, accompanied by Ms Ní Loinn. We are looking forward to the “BIG” celebrations in March when we raise the flag outside our school.
