EANAIR 2012

Dear Parents/Guardians,

MIDTERM
The weather has been remarkably good this winter … NO SNOW. This means that we will close for 1 week for MIDTERM : 13th – 17th FEBRUARY

CONFIRMATION
CONFIRMATION PROGRAMME IN SCOIL UI RIADA STARTED LAST THURSDAY 26TH JANUARY AND WILL CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT 3 THURSDAYS.
SPECIAL THANKS TO ALL PARENT LEADERS!
SOME OTHER DATES TO REMEMBER:

Thanks to all the volunteers who accompany our 3rd and 4th classes to swimming lessons on Mondays. The children are giving very positive reports on the experience.

CREDIT UNION QUIZ
Good luck to the 5 teams who will represent us in Scoil Ui Riada next Friday. They are practicing hard during their lunch breaks this week, studying topics from the Troika to Pixie Lott; capital cities to longest rivers. Quizzes are a really good way of increasing general knowledge.

CREDIT UNION ART COMPETITION
Well done to all entrants, especially the following winners:

WHAT’S THE STORY
Many of our pupils had their stories read on Junior RTE last year. The programme is running again this year and entries should be emailed to class teacher before closing date 10th February.

SPORTS KITS
We registered before Christmas and were among the 100 schools selected to receive a new sports kit. HOWEVER! We need 300 mastheads from the Daily Star. ALL OFFERINGS GLADLY RECEIVED.

PHONES FOR DEFIBRILLATORS
Please continue to send in old phones to the Green Committee collection
We are also collecting used stamps (just cut off corner of envelope), plastic bottle tops (from milk cartons, soft drink bottles, etc), clean “Chinese takeaway containers” and batteries.

PARENTS ASSOCIATION
As you know we have a very active Parents’ Association who meet once a month in the school. Notices of various activities are posted on their NOTICE BOARD in the school yard. The association is made up of representatives from every class. There is no representative, however, from Ms Byrne’s or Ms Shanley’s classes. If you are interested please contact Susie Norris (087   )and she will tell you date of next meeting. The PA has asked me to remind you:

NO UNIFORM DAYS Last Friday of Every Month
January Theme – Back to Front Day
February Theme – Valentine Day
March Theme – Green Day
April Theme – Fancy Hats
May Theme – Summer
June Theme – Shades and Shorts
September Theme – Jersey Day
October Theme – Halloween
November Theme – Denim Day
December Theme – Santa Hat Day

CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU
to our dedicated Lollipop Lady, CARMEL REILLY.
You have guided thousands of Kilcock children across the road safely for the past 40 years. We are so grateful.

ROAD SAFETY
I regularly appeal to you parents/minders to consider the safety of our children as they enter and exit the school. As you know – THERE IS NO PEDESTRIAN ACCESS THROUGH STAFF CAR PARK. Mill Lane is extremely narrow and really not conducive to PARKING AND TWO WAY TRAFFIC. I was upset to hear that there have been some incidences of ROAD RAGE with drivers shouting and calling names. NOT REALLY WHAT WE WANT OUR CHILDREN TO SEE OR HEAR. Let’s all calm down, be reasonable and consider parking elsewhere – a walk would be really good for your children at the start and end of the school day!

CALENDARS
Well done to our Parents Association – great idea to have a calendar with class photos to celebrate our first year in our new school. Well done also to salespersons Kaitlyn Fagan, Ruth Trotman and Chloe Crolly who have been selling the calendars since our return to school. Special offer this week, I believe: 2 for the price of one.
