1916 Commemorations begin

Irish FlagOn Thursday 15th October, an Irish Flag and a copy of the proclamation will be delivered to Scoil Choca by two members of the Defence Forces. This is the first of many initiatives and programmes coordinated by the Department of Education and Skills (DES) to commemorate the centenary of 1916.  Children from Senior Infants and First Class will wave their flags as they form a guard of honour to welcome our guests who will proceed to the hall to present the Irish flag to Leon Caffrey and Hannah Bermingham from Junior Infants. This will be followed by the reading of the Proclamation, paragraph 2 being read by Julia Jurczek and Abigail Cassidy Nolan. Children from Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth classes will then be invited to ask questions. The ceremony will finish with all the Senior classes proudly singing Amhráin na bhFiann, our National Anthem. We are delighted to be joined for the celebration by piper, Mr Durkan.
